How to test your stream?

Modified on Thu, 24 Aug 2023 at 04:54 PM

Summary:  It is a good practice to test your event before the stream goes live for the audience. This article will show you how to run your event live but make it visible only to authorized Preview users, while anyone else who lands on the event page will still see the Video-Poster instead of the video stream

Steps:

1. Block the access to the stream to regular users

Go to Event Management > Sessions and unfold the live session you want to test the stream.

On the left-hand side, the green icon and message tell you the event is currently receiving a live stream.

On the right-hand side, the Audience Toggle default status indicates the Audience can access the Live Stream.

Click on the Audience Toggle to block the audience from being able to watch the Live Stream

2. Add one or more preview users

Unfold the Collaborators section on the Event Management menu, and click on Preview Users

Then, click to add a new Preview User

Click Add to confirm and repeat for as many Preview users as you need.

3. Test the event and the stream

The Preview users must be identified by their email when they access the event. Therefore they must use any access that identifies the user via the email (any link except the Open access link)
If your event only has an open access link, you can create a registration gate access link only for testing purposes

A Preview user trying to watch the event through a Registration gate link, an SSO link, an Allow list link or an Email marketing link will be able to watch the event whilst the rest of the audience will remain in the lobby page.

You can toogle to Audience is Allowed in at any time and it will become effective immediately.
